What is DevOps?

In the traditional development model, programming teams work largely independently of each other. Developers write the code for the administrators to implement. Unfortunately, having developers and administrators work independently of each other has a number of drawbacks:

• Significantly longer implementation time
  A new piece code or patch often has to wait for an administrator to find time to implement it. No or poor communication between the departments involved is another common issue.
• Testing is more difficult
  Due to the long waiting time, feedback on any errors in the code is given long after the code has been finished. Another problem are the frequent differences between the development and production environments.
• Response to market requirements
  Less frequent updates mean slower response time to a dynamically changing market situation and not being able to keep up with the market and customer expectations.
• Response to project requirements
  Any change slows down the rest of the project, making on-time completion unrealistic.
• Work organisation
  Due to the waiting for the implementation and testing of a patch in production conditions, developers often have to interrupt their current work to correct the previously written code.

With DevOps, we can make this process more efficient.
